What this site is for
Most of the time you don’t need a full care encyclopedia — you need to know why this leaf looks like that, right now. Wiltwatch exists for the moment your plant looks wrong and you’re standing there with a watering can in one hand, not sure if you should use it. It’s built around symptoms and fixes first, general care second.
Who runs this
Wiltwatch is run by one person who publishes under the pen name Wren Ashby. The guides are not a personal diary: they do not describe the author’s own plants, purchases, or experiments, and any situation described at the top of a guide is a typical case, not a personal story.
How these guides get made
- Guides are written and edited from published horticultural guidance — mainly university extension programs (for example NC State, Clemson, the University of Maryland, Iowa State, and UC IPM) and the ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic plant database. In many guides, the sources behind a specific claim are linked right in the text.
- The site does not claim hands-on testing of every plant or product mentioned. Product suggestions in the buying guides are based on listing details and general suitability, not on personal testing.
- Photos are stock images from Unsplash, chosen to illustrate the plant or topic. They are not photos of the author’s own plants, and a photo may not show the exact symptom being described.
- Pet-toxicity statements follow the ASPCA’s listings. If a guide and the ASPCA ever disagree, go with the ASPCA and check with your vet.
- Guides are corrected when an error turns up. Where plant care is genuinely uncertain, the guide says so instead of presenting a guess as settled fact.

Some buying guides contain Amazon affiliate links. How that works is explained on the affiliate disclosure page.
Questions or corrections?
If something on this site didn’t work for your plant, or you think a guide has an error in it, get in touch. That’s genuinely useful to hear about — plants and growing conditions vary more than any single guide can cover.
