What this site is for
Most of the time you don’t need a full care encyclopedia — you need to know why this leaf looks like that, right now. Wiltwatch exists for the moment your plant looks wrong and you’re standing there with a watering can in one hand, not sure if you should use it. It’s built around symptoms and fixes first, general care second.
Who writes this
Wiltwatch is written and run by one person. I go by Wren Ashby here, which is a pen name — I’d rather keep my real name off the internet, for the same reason a lot of people would, and that doesn’t change what’s actually in the guides. I’ve been keeping houseplants for years, killed more of them than I’d like to admit when I started, and most of what ends up on this site comes directly out of figuring out what went wrong with my own plants after the fact — including the specific mistakes described in the articles themselves.
How these guides get made
- Photos on this site are of actual plants I’ve grown or treated, not stock photography, and they’re not staged to look worse — or better — than the problem really looked.
- Where a guide references something outside personal experience — toxicity to pets, fungicide dosing, and so on — it’s checked against university extension programs or similarly reputable horticultural sources.
- Guides get revisited and corrected when something turns out to be wrong or out of date, instead of being left as-is indefinitely.
- If something is genuinely uncertain — and plant care often is, since a lot of “rules” are really just what worked for one person’s specific conditions — the guide says so instead of presenting a guess as settled fact.
